Juanita Ruth Sheets, 79, passed away at the Carlisle Care Center Sunday, May 4, 2014.

Juanita was born November 26, 1934 in Eadsville, Kentucky to Van and Flossie Russell.

Juanita was a kind and loving woman. She was an avid writer and her passion was poetry. She published a book of poetry entitled “Illusions” and wrote a poem that was set to music titled “He Let My Light Shine”. Juanita was a member of The International Society of Poets. She was also a member of Altoona Christian Church. Later in life Juanita loved to spend time in the kitchen surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren, preparing meals, desserts, and making memories.


She is survived by her daughter, Kim (Jerry) Burrows; step-daughters, Rozann Lage and Michele Fritz; grandchildren, Lisa (Patrick) Murphy, Natalie (Steven) Whittemore, Amy (John) Lang, Mike and Dan Lage, and Kate, Cory and Tony Fritz ; 16 great-grandchildren; siblings, Elizabeth Bonnett, Betty Kuebler, Bob (Donna) Russell, and Fanny (Wayne) Lunders; and many nieces, nephews, and other loving family members.

Juanita was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin; son, Kenny Peck; and her sisters, Evalee Nolin and Louise Loehr.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with funeral at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Burial will follow at Colfax Cemetery.
