Edward Henderson
April 06, 2014
Ed “Geezer” Henderson, 67, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2014. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 9, from 5 to 8 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 10 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1627 Grand Ave. in West Des Moines.
Ed was born on March 15, 1947 in Lovilia, Iowa to Ernest Henderson and Phyllis (McGinn) Henderson. He graduated from Albia High School in 1965 and Drake University in 1969. He served in the U.S. Army from 1969-1971. He worked for the Iowa Department of Revenue for 37 years prior to his retirement in 2010.
Ed was a passionate sports fan to say the least. No phone calls would be accepted during St. Louis Cardinal baseball games, Green Bay Packer or Notre Dame football games, or Drake basketball games. He saw 3 World Series games, a game at Lambeau Field, several Notre Dame games in South Bend, and was a Drake season ticket holder for over 30 years. His other passion was playing Euchre with his family and Tuesday night buddies.
Ed is survived by his wife of 33 years, Dianne (Waechter) Henderson; his daughters, Susan Henderson of Clive and Beth Henderson of West Des Moines; his sisters, Rita Henderson and DeDe Paris of Altoona, Peggy Graham and Jackie (Troy) Underwood of Albia; his in-laws, John and Leigh Waechter, Janet and Steve Heisdorffer, Jim and Stacy Waechter, Terry Waechter, and Cathy and Joe Clawson; numerous nieces and nephews; the light of his life, grandson, Dacs. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister; and brother, Tommy Joe.
Ed’s favorite Irish saying was “May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil knows you’re dead.” Memorial contributions may be directed to the family. Online condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.

I'm truly going to miss Uncle Ed. He was a great man, always full of jokes and pranks and some sort of crap to talk about my Rockies. He knows that I'm rooting for the Redbirds now...never Notre Dame or the Packers...but at least the Cards. I've never met a character quite like Ed and that's because there are few people that are as ornery, authentic, and smile-inducing as him. I hope to raise some trouble in his honor. Love you always, Eddy.

There is one chair that is now empty at the table for the Tuesday night Euchre gathering at All In The Family. Hope we all can someday meet up again to get in a few games. Rest In Peace Buddy.

I worked with Ed for several years at IA Dept. of Revenue. He was one of the kindest people I have ever known. I know his family is sad for his loss, but rejoice in knowing he is with his Holy Family, and we all will meet again. I'll always remember geezer, when we served mass for Father Snell. As all of you remember Father was rather maticulis and a perfectionist when it came time to cover the challis, everything had to be just so. Eddie Guy always got the biggest laugh from the time when mass was over and and we all was leaving the alter and father had left his Berette on his chair and so, being the little gentleman I was, following Father Snell along trying to put the Berette on his head and being only 3 or 4 feet tall at the time it was quite the sight I'm sure and Eddie Guy got a good laugh when he was telling mom all about it latter. God Bless old friend and our thoughts and prayers are with your family you left behind.

Our deepest sympathies to your family...Joe always loved visiting with Eddie "Guy". Will always remember when "Geezer" came to visit Joe in the hospital after Joe's strokes. Joe looked forward to that very much. Also Joe will miss the recent phone calls they had when Eddie felt like talking. Joe often talks about the days in Lovilia and the joking and fun they all had. Rest in Peace, dear man.

During the time Eddie Guy and I worked together at Revenue, he kept me and the rest of the section entertained with his great jokes and humor. Some of the things that I remember and still carry on today are his signature sign-offs "4:03 goodnight!" and "Adios" (emphasis on the A), and the pranks he would pull, such as a remote-controlled whopee cushion that was often in my office. Edwardo will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with Ed's family.
