Service Details

Fred was born at home May 8, 1925 to Agnes Leverman. He graduated from Woodside High School in 1943. Fred served in World War II in the Signal Corps in the Pacific. He worked for Woodbrothers, later as a Route driver for McHenry Distributing, and finally worked in Maintenance at Woodside Middle School where he retired.

He loved living on his acreage in Carney for 38 years, with close neighbors and relatives nearby. After retiring he loved riding on Bill Riley bike trails around Des Moines. This last year he lived with family in Norwalk and enjoyed fishing and pontoon rides on Lake Colechester in Norwalk.

He is survived by his sons, Fred (Susan) Leverman and Brian (Gina) Leverman; five grandchildren, Amanda, Danielle (Joey Ruiz), Dominic, Mark (Kathryn Moeller) and Katie; and his great-grandchildren, Eli Leverman and Jovani Ruiz. He was preceded in death by his mother Agnes; sister, Mary Harvey; wife, Katie and son, Tom.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, with burial to follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Ankeny, St. John’s Catholic Church in Norwalk or Warren County Nutrition in loving memory of Fred.
