Willard Smith

Willard Smith, a life long resident of Johnston, 89, passed away July 18, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. He was born October 8, 1917 and was a Navy veteran of World War II. Willard worked at Firestone for 34 years, retiring in 1979 and was a member of URW Local 310.
Willard is survived by his sons, Larry and Douglas (Linda) Smith, both of Des Moines; daughters, Sharon Rorbakken of Boone, NC and Carol (Gordon) Tripp of Indianola; brother, Gene (Rose) Doss of Saylorville; sister Betty Hessinger of Fernley, NV; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces; nephews; and beloved friends.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel M. Woods; second wife, Phyllis I. Hough; brother, Ralph Ryan; and great-grandson, Christopher Peters.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 23, 2007 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Burial will take place in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.
