Service Details

Rose Martina Carroll passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at her home with her loved ones by her side. Rose was born on January 13, 1924 in Churchville, Iowa to Joseph and Julia (Waldron) Harkin. She was named after her mother’s twin sister, Rose (Sr. Mary Olivia), so she went by her middle name, Martina.

Rose was a long time member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and had been a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She had worked at the Ordinance Plant during WW II and Meredith Corporation before she was married to Vincent Carroll on June 5, 1948. Rose was a stay at home mom and was well known for her cinnamon rolls and pies (so our house was very popular with the neighborhood kids). In her later years she loved to watch game shows, especially Jeopardy, and she really knew her world geography!

Those left to cherish Rose’s memory are her children, Rose Ann Gill, John (Bernice) Carroll, William (Jackie) Carroll, Dennis (Pennie) Carroll and Rita Carroll; her brother, James Harkin; her sister, Honora Kirvin; fourteen grandchildren, Jennifer (Alfred) Hyslope, Mary Carroll, Laura (Mark) Thompson, Annie (PJ) Adamovicz, John Pat (Kristen) Carroll, Karen (John) Fatino, Danny (Meagan) Carroll, Brian (Malory Walsh) Daily, Andy (Charlotte King) Seuferer, Loren (Aly) Carroll, Eric Carroll, Natalie Carroll, Joe Carroll and Phil Carroll; and thirteen great-grandchildren (and one on the way); two step great-grandchildren; one step great-great grandchild; and numerous other loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent; parents; two sisters, one at infancy and Veronica Bell; and five brothers, Joseph, John, Paul “Pete”, Edward and Cyril Harkin.

A Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013 at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Norwalk with burial following at St. John’s Cemetery, Cumming. A visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2013 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
