Bernadine L. Burmester

Bernadine Burmester, 89, died Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.

Bernie was born September 12, 1923, in Normal, Illinois, to Earl and Oletha Jones. Bernie and her husband, Norman, were founding members of the Mount Olive Lutheran Church on Franklin Avenue in Des Moines. She also volunteered at Iowa Methodist Hospital for many years.

Bernie is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Jon Grannis) Ellis-Grannis; granddaughter, Schyler (Peter) Burke; great-grandchildren, John Richard Burke, Victoria Catherine Burke, and Marin Elizabeth Burke; sister, Doris Mae Adams; and nieces, Cindy O’Donnell, Kathy Temme, and Mary Gillotti. She is preceded in death by her parents, loving husband, Norman, and her son, Terry.

There will be a visitation held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, February 26, 2013. A graveside service will take place at Hampton Cemetery on Wednesday, February 27, at 1 p.m.
