Constance “Connie” Mason, 66, passed away at Taylor House Hospice on February 16, 2013. She was born September 1, 1946, in Iowa City, to Robert and June Mason. She retired in 2008 from Principal Financial, and spent time volunteering for the Animal Lifeline of Iowa.
Connie is survived by her sister, Sandy Kehoe; brothers, Robert (Donna) Mason and David (Sindy) Mason; nieces and nephews, Kelly Espeland, Jason Kehoe, Justin Kehoe, Matthew Mason, Nina Mason, Lia Mason, John Mason, Lori Mason, Kyle Mason, Ashley Mason, Kaitie Mason, Andrew Mason, and Elizabeth Mason. She was preceded in death by her parents, and step-mother, Helen Mason.
A Celebration of Life will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed toward the Animal Lifeline of Iowa in loving memory of Connie.

Sandy, Kelly, Jason & Dusty~
Please accept our sincere condolences for the loss of your loved one. This is one of the most difficult things we must face in our life. May it comfort you to know that others are deeply touched by your loss. God assures us at Psalms 34:18 that he is near to those broken in heart and those crushed in spirit he saves. Jesus also promises that we will be able to see our loved ones again. Jesus own words found at John 5:28,29 tells us there will be a resurrection. What a wonderful hope! God says that soon on the earth there will be no more pain, suffering and especially death at Revelation 21:3-5 We anxiously await the day when we will no longer lose those we love. May these bible thoughts bring you comfort at this most difficult time.

It was my privilege to get to know Connie through Animal Lifeline of Iowa volunteer projects at the Shelter and at Millies Loft. Shed tackle any task and add her element of friendly fun to the job. Connie gave so much to enhance the lives of the animals, and in doing so enhanced our lives, too. God bless her.

I knew Connie only through my lifetime friend, Kelly Espeland and her fantastic mom, Sandy Kehoe. She was funny, witty and devoted to two of the greatest women I know. I know walking her through this difficult journey was heartbreaking and brutal, but I have no doubt, it was made easier and more peaceful for her because of you. You may never know the gift you gave her or yourselves. All those memories the three of you created throughout the years will get you through the hardest parts and find you smiling on the other side. RIP, Connie and all my love and prayers to those who will grieve her passing and miss her terribly.

To Sandy... I didn't spend much time with Connie, but I will remember her as a great storyteller, and a person of strong conviction. May she rest in peace with the Angels in Heaven.

I volunteered with Connie on Wednesday nights at Animal Lifeline and she was always cheerful, helpful, and positive. She loved cats as much as I do and it was always a joy to see her there each week. My sincere condolences to Connie's family and friends.

Connie and her family- Connie and I took care of the cats and kittens together at Animal lifeline years ago. She always had a tender touch for the orphan kittens we bottlefed. Connie was a joy to know and she will be missed.

I worked with Connie at Principal; she and I 'departed' at the same time. Although we were not close friends, I always enjoyed working with Connie. She was extremely helpful, understanding and efficient. Just a few days ago my thoughts turned to Connie and I remembered her warmly. So sorry her life was cut short.

Connie and family. What a great spirit. Connie is the person that got me started vounteering for Anima-Lifeline. She changed my life. I will always remember Connie as the person who loved unconditionaly with no judgement toward everyone. I feel so fortunate to have had Connie on my path. She left us smiling and feeling happy. Sandy, Kelly and to all of Connie's family. What a friend I was blessed with in Connie. From the variety of volunteer activities we did with Animal Lifeline over many years to the dinners and other community outings as well as visits to her home, a caring friendship developed of a depth that I shall never forget. She was always thinking of others and loved her family and also her cat family. Connie was remarkable throughout her journey with her cancer and I admired her for her stamina and her will to keep going. I will miss my sister by heart and I know she will be watching over all of you each day. May memories of this wonderful woman sustain you in the days ahead. Hugs of comfort to all. Berta

To all of Connie's family: I also knew Connie from the shelter. Over the past several years I would bring her rhubarb from my parent's garden. This past spring was no different. Then I brought her strawberries and then tomatoes from my garden, I would sometimes pick up food or medication for Carmen for her. I would never stay too long, but I always enjoyed our chats. She would tell me of all her family and friends. Connie is a hero to me, she took on her cancer with such bravery. I will truely miss her and my prayers are with you but I look upon Connie as the newest angel in Heaven.

To Sandy and all of Connie's family: I volunteered with Connie at Animal Lifeline for several years. We had a good time together and have remained friends. Connie was such an example of grace, courage, and positive attitude on her journey with cancer. What a beautiful example for all of us! Connie was a special person. She showed such love...she really loved all of you; I heard her speak of you often and the good times you all had together as a family. I am sorry for your loss (it's my loss as well). Connie was loved and she will be missed. May God comfort you in your sorrow.
