Service Details
Richard S. Martin, 77, of Des Moines, formerly of Ames, died Monday of respiratory failure at his home. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, February 8, 2013, at First Church of God, 4201 E. Douglas Avenue in Des Moines. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at the church, with burial at the Ames Municipal Cemetery in Ames.
Richard was born in Ames to Robert W. and Ethel (Jackman) Martin. He attended Ames High School and was employed by the Ames Community School district.
Survivors include his brothers, Dr. T.F. Martin of Rockville, MD, David Martin of Thornton, IA, and Ernest Martin of Ames, IA; sister, Karen Garrison of Des Moines; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert, in 1962; mother, Ethel, in 1981; brother, Donald, in 1991; and an infant brother, Walter.

I'm sorry to read the loss of my cousin " Dick LaBo in the newspaper. I wish we were notified so we could of attended the services in Ames. He was a great member of the OUTDOORS in hunting and fishing. He would of made a great DNR officer. He will be missed. RIP LaBo

I am so sorry to hear re Richie's passing. In the 1950s he used to come out to our farm south of Ames to ride our horses and ponies with us and with various buddies from Ames. I remember him as a wonderful humorous mellow guy who was always engaging and fun. Condolences to the family and all who loved him.

I was sorry to read of Richard's death in the Ames Paper. I remember him from when I used to come over to your home to play with Karen...long long ago.
