Svend "Chris" Christensen

Svend “Chris” Christensen, 80, died Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 26, 2013, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kimballton, Iowa. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street. SW in Altoona.

Svend was born October 26, 1932, in Kimballton, Iowa, to Marius and Johanne (Rasmussen) Christensen. He was a Hull Technician for the United States Navy and retired from there after twenty years. He was a member of the Altoona VFW.

Svend is survived by his daughters: Patty Christensen, Amy (Ron) Buenger, Judy Christensen, and Susan Backe; five grandchildren: Jeremy, Erik, Stefanie, Dustin, and Harley; three great-grandchildren, with one on the way; and his brother Kjer. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Totsy; and his sisters: Esther and Bertha.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in loving memory of Svend.
