Richard "Rick" McKeown
January 22, 2013
Richard “Rick” McKeown passed away suddenly on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at Broadlawns Hospital in Des Moines. Rick was born on October 4, 1953 in Akron, Ohio to Carl and Janice McKeown.
Rick spent most of his early years as a truck driver, his nickname was GRIZZ. His most recent years were spent in construction with the Kennedy’s. Most of the time, you could find him on the couch watching T.V. or in the basement working on projects like sketching on glass or painting. Other times you’d find him with his best friend, Steve, playing horseshoes. He loved to fish with his daughter, Miranda. He would use the worms he would find in his yard after a good rain. Most of all Rick will be remembered as being a loving husband, father and friend and he will truly and deeply be missed.
Family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, January 25, 2013 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street with Military Honors to be presented at 7 p.m.
Those left behind to mourn Rick’s passing are his loving wife of 30 years, Pam; his son, JR ( Brandy Duttlinger) McKeown; his daughters, Sommer (Tommy) Thompson and Miranda McKeown; his mother, Janice McKeown; his sister, Sandy Harrigal; his mother in-law, Violet Ayres; and numerous other family and friends.
Preceding him in death are his father, Carl and his brother, Denny.
Memorial contributions may be directed to his wife, Pam.

Dearest Family of Rick McKeown,
I join with so many others who knew Rick in offering our deepest sympathy on his passing. Although it is little consolation at this sad time, it should be of some satisfaction to know that in his passing you can celebrate the end of a very long and productive life.
The measure of a life well-lived is not in how much money one has or what possessions they have accumulated, but rather through the lives they touched and the sorrow they leave behind. If the outpouring of sympathy on his loss is any indication, and it most certainly is, you can proudly and confidently say that his indeed was a life well-lived.
May you find peace and comfort in knowing that his loss is felt by all who knew and loved him.
In Sympathy,
Travis Neer
