Ruth E. Mastin

Ruth Evelyn Mastin, age 80, loving wife, mother and grandmother, went to her heavenly home on December 10, 2012.

Ruth was born January 3, 1932. She was raised in Promise City, Iowa, by her adoptive parents, Harry and Emma McCarty. She met her loving husband at the Old Settlers Celebration in Corydon, Iowa, and they married December 30, 1948. They lived in Corydon and later moved to Des Moines, where they have been for the past 53 years. Ruth and her husband raised four children in their 63 years together. They lost one of their three daughters in their first year together.

Ruth was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Winsel at the age of 13; parents, Harry and Emma, as well as Ruth and Charles; daughter, Ruth Louise at three days old; along with seven brothers and sisters. She is survived by her husband, Charles, Sr.; son, Chuck, Jr., of Ed Couch, Texas; daughters, Elsie Lucille Karns and Kathy Kay Dawson, both of Des Moines; grandchildren, Cynthia Mastin of Texas; Charles Mastin, III, of Des Moines, Christina Angel of Arkansas, Rick Karns of Cedar Rapids, Joyce and James Karns of Des Moines, and John, Douglas, and Heather Dawson of Des Moines; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, December 14, 2012, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, followed by burial at Avon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.
