Richard Reyes, 87, passed away Friday, November 23, 2012, surrounded by his loving family, at the Kavanagh House on 56th Street

Richard was born January 9, 1925, in Des Moines, to Virginia (Cervantes) and Joseph Reyes. Richard was the 10th son of 11 children, (nine brothers and one sister). He proudly enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. at the age of 17 and was stationed in the South Pacific on Hiroshima during WWII with the 906th Platoon, at which time he received the Purple Heart. After he returned to the U.S., Richard married Chris Howser on June 9, 1946. He worked as a Photographer for Solar Aircraft and later had his own studio, Ricardo’s Photography, on the Southside of Des Moines. Richard loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed singing, boxing, and playing golf in his younger years. He was a huge Frank Sinatra fan.

Richard is survived by his son, Steve (Mary) Reyes and daughter, Jodie (Craig) Quick; grandchildren, Maria (Matt) Fay, Angela (Kevin) Graeve, K.C. (Lydia) Quick, Steve (Katrina) Quick, Joe (Amy) Quick, and Andrea Quick; great-grandchildren, Ginger Fay, Kassidy Quick, Dylan Quick, Sydney Quick, Hannah Quick, Kay Quick, and Jackson Quick; and brothers, Robert Reyes and David Reyes. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Chris in 2008.

A private family graveside service will be held at a later date at Lowman Cemetery in Runnells. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, November 27, 2012, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.
