Patricia Kay Richardson/Heaberlin, 55, passed away September 24, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Friday, September 28, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. A visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.
Patty was born February 20, 1957, to Harry Messinger and Betty Skalisky. She graduated from Guthrie Center High School in 1975, and began working at Principal Financial Group in December of 1976. Patty loved vacationing in the Dominican Republic, Nascar racing, shopping, and spending time with family and friends.
Patty is survived by her husband, Dave; daughter, Megan Richardson; brother Bobby (Mary) Messinger and their children, Marissa and Shane; stepchildren, Scott, Jeremy, Nick, Trevor, Courtney, Austin and grandchildren, Jayden, Tyson, Lexi, Hayden, Jerzey and Brayton. Patty was preceded in death by her parents; and grandparents, Wilson (Viola) Messinger and Earl (Dollie) Twist.

I was shocked to hear of Patty's death. I saw her a few months ago at Hy-Vee. So sorry to all friends and family during this time. I started at Principal working with Patty. Great lady and she would do anything for you. Blessings to all of you.

I am so sorry for your loss. I met Patty at one of the Heaberlin reuions and remember thinking what a sweet person she was! Take care and take care of your mom, I am sure she is taking this very hard too.

Patty and I have been friends for over 35 years. I have seen her go through sad times and happy times. She was such a caring person always ready to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. She was a great co-worker who always went above and beyond at work. Patty--I will never forget you and the good times that we had. Prayers to Dave as he made the last 11 years the best for you!

I was so saddened to hear of Patty's passing. I worked with her for many years at Principal and really enjoyed that time. I remember her favorite topic to talk about was Megan - she sure loved you, Megan! My thoughts and prayers are with you and the entire family.

My heartfelt sympathy to Patti's family at this sad time. I enjoyed spending time with Patty and her friends in her backyard pool. Always caring and fun! You always were aware how much she loved her family, especially Megan. My prayers are with you.

My sincere condolences to Patty's family. She was such a funny, sweet person and a good friend. I worked with Patty when she started at Principal. We had a lot of great times and laughs. She and I spent a lot of fun times at her house with her Mom in those early years. Our loss is Heaven's gain.

My thoughts and prayers are with you Megan. Even though I did not see your mom the last few years, I always thought of her, and now wish we would have stayed in contact. We grew up together and had a lot of fun back in the "old" days. She was a very special person.

To Patty's Family: I hope it helps to ease the pain of your loss knowing that Patty will be deeply missed and will live on in the memories of those who knew her. Patty and I were in the same graduating class at GCHS, and she was such fun - always enjoying life to the fullest. It sounds like she didn't change much as the years went by. My deepest sympathies to you. The world may have lost a good and kind woman, but heaven is now blessed.

I'm so sorry for your loss.
Patty and I met a about 28 (?) years ago walking up and down the big hill to a now-gone Principal parking lot. We were both pregnant at that time - she was so excited about her new baby - and it was fun to share with each other.
