Luellen "Bud" Hastie

Bud Hastie, 86, died Monday, September 17, 2012, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. He was born June 20, 1926, in Des Moines, to Warren and Clara Hastie.

Bud served his country in the United States Army during WWII from 1944 until his honorable discharge in June of 1946. He worked for Sunbeam Appliance, R & R Welding, and Hastie Delivery Service. Bud loved the mountains, traveling, and was an avid sports fan, especially baseball and football. His greatest earthly joy was spending time with his family regardless of the occasion. Above all, Bud was a man of God’s word and daily spent time in prayer.

Bud is survived by his loving wife, Vivian; children, Rebecca (David) Leedy, Michael (Phyllis) Hastie, Matthew Hastie, and Laura (Paul) Starkweather; grandchildren, Kathleen (Mike) Gonzalez, Megan Hastie, Sarah O’Neal, Stefanie Creason and Daniel Starkweather; and great-grandchildren, Ethan Gonzalez, Jonathon Creason and Lillian Starkweather. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Cynthia; a sister; and grandson, Michael Leedy.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 21, 2012, at Bethany New Life Christian Fellowship, 3040 SE 72nd Street, Runnells, with burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit with family from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, September 20, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Building Fund at Bethany New Life Christian Fellowship in loving memory of Bud.
