Betty Backstrom

Betty J. Backstrom passed away Saturday, June 9, 2007 at the Kavanaugh House in Des Moines. Betty was born November 14, 1925 to Gladys and Robert Gordon. She spent most of her life in Des Moines before moving to Woodburn. She loved kids, enjoyed playing bingo, going to the casino, shopping and helping others.
Betty is survived by her husband of 63 years John Backstrom, her daughter; Terry (Mike) Porter, her sons; Robert and Mark, all of Woodburn, brothers; Ronald and Roy Gordon, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son; John Backstrom
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home with burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Des Moines. Family will greet friends Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Because of her love for animals memorial contributions are suggested to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa in loving memory of Betty.
