Barbara Jean Henderson

Barbara J. Henderson, 71, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2012, at home after a long illness. She was born October 2, 1940, in Des Moines, where she resided for her entire life.

Barbara was married to her husband, Larry, for fifty-four wonderful years, and enjoyed taking care of her husband and daughter. She worked in the accounting field for the State of Iowa Department of Agriculture, and retired from the Des Moines Register in 1994. Barbara enjoyed traveling with her daughter, doing needlework, playing on the computer, and cooking for her family.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Larry; and daughter, Melinda both of Des Moines; sister, Kathryn (Hugene) Hart of West Des Moines; niece, Alice (John) Swenka of Coralville; and grand-nephew, Lane Swenka of Coralville. Her parents, Benjamin and Ruth Coon, preceded her in death.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home, followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery.
