Charles Agans, 83, died Sunday, March 18, 2012. A funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 22, 2012, at St. Anthony Catholic Church with burial following at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., with a rosary at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 21, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.
Charles was born August 12, 1928, to John and Mary Margaret Agans. He worked as an auto mechanic at Wayne Highland Radiator Shop. He was also retired from the Army National Guard as a Sergeant Major after 21 years of service. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, the Isaac Walton League, the Sgt. Major’s Association and the Knights of Columbus. He also served as Treasurer of the Boy Scouts of America Troop #227.
Charles is survived by his wife, Mary Agnes; sons, Charles, Jr. (Michelina), Gary (Patty), John (Ann); daughters, Crystal (Chuck) Grange, Mary Lee Agans, Donna (Robert Sr.) Grange, Georgia Parkey; sister, Marjorie (Stan) Sanders; eighteen grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be directed to his family.

Sorry to hear that Mr. Agans passed away. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
My mom lives at Westview Care Center in Indianola. She has her own room with her own furniture and things from home. It is a wonderful place and she really likes it. When I called her today, she told me about Mr. Agans.

Mary Agnes and Family,
I want to extend my deepest sympathy to you and your entire family. So many thoughts fill my head and heart at this moment when I remember him and your lovely family. I remember the picnics in the park, the square dancing, the card games, and scouting. So many great memories that I will never forget.
I hope he is at peace now and can enjoy getting re-acquainted with his old friends that were there to meet him in heaven. My Dad will be so glad to see him again and they can get caught up on family and friends and all the good times!
We will miss his quiet nature, warm smile and big heart.

Mary Agnes and Family,
I was so sad to hear about Charlie last night. My memories of him are all so sweet. He was so happy, kind and just lovely. Mary Agnes, you and Charlie had one of the most beautiful marriages I will ever know. I have so many great memories of all the time our families spent at eachother's house and what wonderful friends you both were to my mom and dad. I am sure there is a reunion going on in heaven with my dad eating the most!
Wish I could be there with you at this time but know you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Good Bye Pappy
I've heard him called Chuck and Dad. I'm sure someone called him Charles and there may even been a few Charleys. I often heard him called Pappy and that suited him best.
I knew very little about him. He didn't seem like the kind of person to talk much about himself. Most everything I know about him I learned from his obituary and from two of his sons. We all played poker.
At a poker table, Pappy had a keen sense of humor and when he teasingly gave a person grief, it sometimes took that person a minute or two to catch on. And when that person decided to give Pappy some grief, he took it with a smile and a chuckle.
At a poker table a person might make think old Pappy wasn't paying close attention or maybe was a step behind. Whenever a person thought that, it usually cost them money.
We played a weird game called 3-13-33. Somehow, a very disproportional amount of times, he sat on the red 3 and and took his share of the pot. It always made me laugh. I'm sure he is now sitting on the red 3 that finds eternal peace.
John and Chuck are lucky men to have such a father.

Mary and crew... please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you. Just know that when I think of Charlie Agans I smile... the relationship between our families was what friendship should be.
