Mary Anne was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on December 3, 1929, to Harry Shockley and Esther Lindberg. She was a proud alumna of East High School. Mary Anne carried herself well no matter where in the world they lived and always enjoyed the sweetest parts of life. She had a compassionate heart, especially towards children and animals. Mary Anne was an avid golfer, making a hole-in-one at Bacon Park in Savannah, Georgia, while playing with her 9 Hole Club girlfriends.

Mary Anne is survived by her children (Jill, Jack, and Johanna), her brother Jack Shockley, special cousins (Nancy Burgett and Marilyn Thomas), the love of her later life, Ned Newton, grandchildren, Devon Frederick and Anna Frederick; and her devoted Siamese, Missy. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack in 2000, grandson Joseph Frederick in 2011, and siblings Bob, Ray, and Irene.

Interment and a memorial service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations made to the Taylor House Hospice: 3401 E. Douglas Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50317.
