Brian Eck
February 07, 2012
Brian Keith Eck left our world, but not our hearts, on Monday, February 6, 2012. He was 35 years old. The great love Brian had for others, and they for him, was evident in the large crowd of family and friends that gathered to support Brian and each other in his final days of life at Mercy Hospital. Brian will be sorely missed by all who loved him but will live on and give new life to others, thanks to his family’s decision to donate his organs and tissue.
Brian was born on September 17, 1976, to Dixie and Wendell Eck. Brian and his sisters, Bonita and Anna, were “best friends” and remained inseparable throughout their lives.
Brian’s joy and enthusiasm for life and love for others is legendary, but nothing when compared to his love for and devotion to his son, Ledger. Ledger was the center of Brian’s world and Brian committed to fatherhood with the same passion he brought to everything.
Friends and family will remember especially Brian’s smile and sense of humor. He put the needs of others far ahead of his own. He was the one others went to when they needed a helping hand or a shoulder to lean on. His funny faces and silly voices live on in his son, Ledger.
Brian was an exceptional craftsman and well-respected for his skill at carpentry and carpet installation. He and his father, Wendell, worked side-by-side often, a source of great pride and joy for them both.
Brian loved his boat and time spent on the lake with family and friends. He rarely missed a family gathering or social event and when he did things just weren’t quite the same. He and his mother, Dixie, shared a love of bargain shopping and, especially, time spent with Ledger.
Brian is survived by his son, Ledger Johnson-Eck; mother, Dixie Brooks (Archie); father, Wendell Eck (CeCe Ibson); sisters, Bonita Harvey, Anna Eck and Wendi Eck; nieces, Shelbi Alex, Ashlin Alex, Justyce Eck, Morghan Harvey and Jayda VanNiewaal; aunts and uncles, Karen Ficus (Dean), Jim Vaneck, Steve Eck, Sally Eck and Scott Eck; step-siblings, Daiynna Brooks-Brown, Lisa Brooks, J. Archie Brooks III, Zoey Wagner and Kiernan Wagner; many, many cousins and friends too numerous to name.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, February 10, 2012, at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Berean Assembly of God Church, 5299 E. University Avenue in Pleasant Hill.
A fund has been established for the benefit of Brian’s son, Ledger. Contributions to “Ledger’s Fund” may be mailed to Ibson Law Firm, 2629 Beaver Avenue, Suite 3, Des Moines, IA 50310.

Dear Heather and Brian's family.
We do not understand a tragedy such as Brian's unexpected death but, we do know that God will be with us to provide His love and comfort. May you all live you lives to the fullest so that Brian can look down and see nothing but love and compassion and see his son raised in harmony together. Ledger deserves a full family circle of people who care about each other. God's peace to all.

Dear Dixie and Family,
Our hearts are heavy with sadness for the loss of Brian. There is nothing worse than a mother losing a child. I experienced it in my family, so I know what you are feeling.
We shall always remember Brian for his glowing smile and for the courtesy that he always extended towards us "golden oldies." He was truly a gem, and you should be very proud to have raised such a fine young man.
Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you, and that we will always be there for you.
Love,
Tom and Sophie

I'm so sorry to hear of Brian's passing. A young life gone too soon.
I pray for Heather, Ledger and your family, that they may find peace during this time of pain- knowing that you are looking over them. May they realize that although their pain is great, yours is no longer.
May God be with them all, giving them the strength to come together and ensure Ledger knows how much he was, and is, loved - because that is what I believe you would want most.
Rest in peace, Brian.

It will be the little things
that you will remember,
the quiet moments,
the smiles, the laughter.
And although it may seem
hard right now,
it will be the memories
of these little things
that help to push
away the pain
and bring the smiles
back again.
When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure. Heather and Ledger...treasure all those memories of the love you and Brian shared. Thinking of you and wishing you hope in the midst of sorrow, comfort in the midst of pain.

I am praying for your healing
with the passage of time.
Know that the strain and the pain
will eventually ease.
May your pleasant memories
sustain and comfort you.

Chewy...my big brother :( My times spent with you and Heather were some of my most enjoyable. The two of you took me in when I needed friends the most. I still remember our nights on the boat watching movies and laughing until our stomachs ached...which is what my heart is doing now. Thank you for protecting me like a sister and always standing up for me. Thank you for loving Heather, a dear friend of mine, and for all the wonderful memories she will be able to share with others for years to come. Most of all I am so proud that a part of you lives on in Ledger. I can't express my sadness for all your family and friends.
I picture you right now finally getting that perfect boat you always wanted, riding off into the sunset waving and laughing...of course, driving WAY to fast.
Love Always,
Dooley
