Bettie L. Uhlman, 82, died Saturday, January 14, 2012. She was born August 29, 1929, to Frank and Mary Uhlman in Des Moines and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1949. Bettie retired from Bank of America after almost 45 years of service. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, cooking and baking. Bettie was a member of Bloomfield United Methodist Church. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family.
Bettie is survived by her sister, Kathryn Morgan; brother, Robert Uhlman; nieces, Ann (Jeff) Heaverlo and Tere (Mark) Glasnapp; nephews, Jerry (Cindy) Uhlman, Frank Uhlman III, and Dan (Debbie) Uhlman; 15 great-nieces and -nephews; nine great-great-nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and beloved friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Frank A. Uhlman II.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 17, 2012, at Bloomfield United Methodist Church, 5930 Indianola Road, with burial to follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

I was sorry to read about Bettie's passing. She was quite a lady. I became acquainted with her while working at a doctor's office in West Des Moines 15-20 years ago. She was always so pleasant to me, funny and easy to get along with. I was a lucky recipient of one of her crocheted afghans that she made to match a new sofa I had purchased. It was a complete surprize and totally unexpected. She also made two more for me in Iowa State colors to be sent to my great-nieces in Alaska for Christmas one year. Our paths would cross in the following years when I was working at Methodist Medical Plaza. It was always so nice to run into her and visit and get caught up on her family and activities. Please accept my sincere sympathy.
