John Allen Ellis

John Allen Ellis passed away peacefully on December 6, 2011, in Newton in the Monarch Hospice Wing at the Skiff Medical Center. John was born on September 6, 1920, to Raymond and Hazel (Parker) Ellis in Norwalk, Iowa.
John proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He married Melva Boggs in 1946 and they were married for 63 years until her passing in 2009. He retired from Colonial Bakery in 1982 after 44 years of loyal service.
Those left to cherish and honor John’s memory are his children, Sandra (Robert) Adamson, Vicki Harper, Stephen (Ann), Carol (Steven) Spragg, James (Lee), and Peggy (Larry) Woods; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and brother, Wayne Ellis.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Melva, his parents, five siblings, one daughter-in-law and one grandson.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 8, 2011, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Bethany Baptist Church, 3516 SE 14th St. with burial to follow at Resthaven Cemetery.

I was very sorry to hear about your Dad. I want you to know my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I'm sorry I couldn't attend the services-I would liked to have seen Stephen.
