John Dykstra

John Dykstra, 100, died Wednesday, November 9, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. He was born June 13, 1911, in Marion County to Gerrit and Mattie Dykstra. John engaged in farming most of his life and he enjoyed watching baseball.

John is survived by his sons, Jon Dykstra, Richard (Pat) Dykstra; daughter, Betty (Bob) Renaud; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Ryerkerk; his parents; three brothers, four sisters; and a daughter-in-law, Betty Dkystra.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, November 12, 2011, at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW, Altoona, with burial to follow at Waveland Cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mitchelleville Care Center Activity Fund, in loving memory of John.
