Mary I. Lair, 84, passed away Friday, October 14, 2011 peacefully at her home with her family by her side.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home 605 Lyon St., with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Born September 1, 1927 Mary Isabelle Jenkins was the daughter of James and Loretta Jenkins. She grew up and attended school in Des Moines. On January 10, 1948 Mary was united in marriage to Ben Lair, the couple had three children, Ralph, David, and Michelle. Mary enjoyed going to the casino, playing cards, camping, and gardening. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.
Survivors include her children, Ralph (Barb) Lair and Michelle (Steve) Theis; grandchildren, Kimberly Bush, Karla Lair, Kathy (Mike) Jones, Kristin Lair, and Brandon Theis; great-grandchildren, Leslie, Erik, Erin, Wyatt, Kelsey, Tina, and Lydia; and a sister, Doris Beehler. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben in 2003; parents, son, David; three brothers; and six sisters.

Aunt Mary was my favorite aunt. I have so many memories of her and all the time I spent with their family when I was growing up. She made the best baked beans in the world! Mary was a very kind hearted person who opened her door to everyone. My kids have fond memories of going to their house and always felt welcome. Aunt Mary always made me feel safe. I'm thankful she doesn't have to suffer anymore and she can be with Uncle Ben now. Aunt Mary will forever be in my heart. My deepest sympathy to all of her family.

Although we are far apart, your family is always near in our hearts. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this time. We love and miss you. Mary was always so good to me and was a wonderful Grandma to my children and Grand children. I have fond memories of camping with her and Ben, fishing, and the fun times on Christmas Eve. I was always included in all family gatherings even though i wasn't technically in the family anymore. Her door was always open to one and all and raiding her refrigerator was always ok too. She always said, "what's ours is yours, help yourself". She will be missed greatly by all of us. I know that her and Ben are looking down on all of us and have become our guardian angels. Thank you Mary for being part of MY family also. I love you. Mary Lynne

Great Aunt Mary was such a wonderful and kind spirited person, I remember going to her home for many family reunions as a child and she was always one of my favorite people to see. I have many fond memories of her and "cupcake" the dog, they both always seemed to smile no matter what! you could easily see that Great Aunt Mary's spirit had rubbed off on everyone around her and even her pets! She was a sweet, kind and caring person who loved her family very much. My heart and soul goes out to all that have lost her beautiful spirit, however we must take a great lesson from Great Aunt Mary, we must all remember to be kind to others no matter what. May you find peace throughout your darkest hours of grief,
