Leota L. Vanderpool

Leota Vanderpool, 84, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2011 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa

Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, August 22, 2011 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, with burial at Iowa Veteran’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Born December 28, 1926, in Rhodes, Iowa, Leota LeAnna Cook was the daughter of Fred and Barbara (Schloss) Cook. Leota graduated from Baxter High School and married Randall W. Vanderpool, to this union two children were born, Ron and Janice. Leota worked many years for Meredith Corporation in the publishing department. Leota enjoyed crossword puzzles, game shows, and watching the Chicago Bulls. Most of all she loved spending time with Randall and her family.

Survivors include her children, Ronnie (Jill) Vanderpool and Janice (Chuck) Hodson; grandchildren, Dannille, Randall, Katherine, and Jessica; great-grandchildren, Sydney and Katherine; and sisters, Marge Ford and Helen Shepard.

Leota was preceded in death by her husband, Randall W. Vanderpool; parents; brothers, Melvin, Leonard, Leroy, Paul Cook; and sisters, LuEtta Russell and Christina Hagethorn.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Urbandale Fire and Rescue.
