Dorothy Jean Trout, born July 12, 1930, went to be with her beloved husband, Jasper, on July 9, 2011. Jasper preceded her in death in 1993. Jean was a stay at home mother until she started her career as a telephone operator and retired in toll-fraud from Northwestern Bell. Jasper retired from the Des Moines Police Department as a Lieutenant. They were both raised in Newton, IA and moved to Des Moines when they married in 1949. They were the proud parents of five daughters.

Survivors include her brother, Bernard Pickering and his wife Cleta and their families. Jean’s daughters, Marta Trout, Mona (Bill) Adolphi, Mica Trout, Melia (Lyle) Johnson, and Melita (Larry) Frankford; grandchildren, Brian (Andrea) Ritter, Jennifer Ritter, Melissa Ritter, Heather Ritter, Jason (Katie) Rees, Trisha (Billy) Rees-Herr, Lindsey (Michael) Wilcox, Katie Jo Johnson, and Matthew Johnson; great-grandchildren, Caleb and Hannah Rees and Ashlee Marie Herr.

Preceding her in death were her parents Glen and Dorothy Pickering.

Jean’s hands were kept busy making quilts, knitting hats, scarves and afghans for all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Many of these talents she has passed on to family and friends.

Visitation with the family will be held at the home of Marta and Mica Trout at 11757 NW 121st Street in Granger, IA, across from the Jester Park Golf Course, on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 from 4 to 7 p.m. A private burial will be held at a later date.

Memorials can be sent to the family and they will be disbursed to the different health organizations that have helped with Jean’s care. The family would like to thank all of the wonderful caregivers for their warmth, kindness, and support.
