Bear Peters
Family Support Dog
Bear is a Chow mix rescue pup who was born on March 13, 2018 and was adopted in June of 2018 by Buffy Peters, Director of Hamilton's Academy of Grief & Loss.
Bear has grown a lot in his years of working at Hamilton's. One of his most favorite parts of his job is making new friends, especially kids! He especially loves to help at our children’s grief programs, Little Hands and Healing Hearts. Not only does he provide a lot of comfort for the kids attending our groups, but he also provides a lot of fun too!
Because Bear works so closely with children, working on certain skills (not just the fun tricks!) has been very important. To ensure his ability to calm down, listen and behave, Bear has been through a variety of training. In February 2022, he passed the Canine Good Citizen test and in September 2022 he passed his therapy dog test to become a certified therapy dog with the Alliance of Therapy Dogs. This certification allows Bear more access to grieving populations in the community, such as going into schools.
Bear spends most of his work days at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway where he comes to work with his mom, Buffy. When he isn't working, Bear enjoys hanging out at home picking on his cat siblings, going for walks and being out in the community meeting new people. Bear loves hot dogs, peanut butter, making TikTok videos and his all time favorite thing ever is snow :)
