Jean Hinrichs Jean Ann Hinrichs, 84, passed away January 11, 2018, at her home in Ankeny. She was born August 17, 1933, on the family farm near Oskaloosa, IA. She was the fourth child of ten born to Pearle and Frank Terpstra, Sr.

Jean attended Oskaloosa Christian School and graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1951. She married Willie Hinrichs June 12, 1958, at Bethany Reformed Church in Des Moines.

Jean worked in food service at DMACC for many years, also helping with gourmet dinners and Boys State meals. For a short time she helped serve meals at Hoyt Sherman for special functions. She was a woman of great faith and was a member of Bethany Reformed Church. Jean enjoyed gardening (especially growing tomatoes and selling them on the back deck), making rugs on her rug loom, crafting, embroidery, playing games, puzzles, feeding the birds, and giving lessons on frugality.

Jean is survived by her sons, Kenley (Sarah), Curt, and Jeff (Launa) Hinrichs; daughter, Vonnie (Kent) Whitmore; 7 grandchildren (Alicia and Bryce Whitmore, Abby, Samantha, Maggie, Will, and Hayley Hinrichs), 1 great-grandchild (Leland Whitmore), and 5 siblings, (Florence, Frank Jr., Carolyn, Gloria, and David) She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 56 years, and 4 siblings (Frances, Chester, Harriet, Edward).

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at Bethany Reformed Church, 720 NE 52nd Avenue in Des Moines with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, January 15th from 4-7 p.m. at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue.
