David "Dave" Michael Kaili, Jr. David “Dave” Michael Kaili, Jr., 83, of Des Moines, passed on to the sandy white beaches of heaven on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Taylor House. Dave was born on July 10, 1934 in Des Moines to David and Helen (Howard) Kaili.

Dave attended St. Anthony’s grade school and graduated in 1952 from Lincoln High School. In high school, he met his future bride Beverly Bird. They were married for 63 years, spending 60 of those years in the same house on the southside of Des Moines, where they raised four children.

He coached Little All American Football for 22 years and is still referred to fondly as “Coach Kaili” to this day. Dave trained Golden Glove Boxers; was a founder of the Railsplitter Ambassador Club at ALHS; and he was inducted into Ft. Des Moines Little League Hall of Fame.

Dave worked at General Motors for 17 years and then went to M&M Supply, American Diesel and retired in 1998 with years of employment with Midwest Wheel Companies. He was a member of the Iowa Motor Truck Association.

His first priority was his family. Dave was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He would sit through extreme weather to watch his kids and grandkids play sports.

Those left to honor his memory are his loving wife, Beverly; three sons, Dave (Linda) Kaili, Rick (Nancy) Kaili, Kevin (Robin) Kaili; daughter, Karen Kaili ; grandchildren, David K. Kaili, Kelli (Jay) Edmond, Nicole Kaili, Douglas Goodwin, Kristopher (Nicole Thomson) Kaili, Jennifer Kaili and Dallas Downey; great-grandchildren, Joey and Sydni Stovall, Natalie and Nicholas Durbala, Jesse Kaili-Ferris and Korri Lynne Kaili; sister, Lauana Sturgeon; and many nieces, nephews, beloved friends and family at heart, Dwayne Downey, Doug and Cole Summy, Kayt Brown.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister; and daughter in-law, Sue Kaili.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the nurses and staff of the Transitional Care Unit at Lutheran Hospital and the entire staff at Taylor House.

Visitation will be held 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at the funeral home.
