Doris Marie Burford Doris Marie Burford, age 88, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at The Bridges at Ankeny.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, April 23, 2017, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 24, 2017, also at Hamilton’s, with burial at Pine Hill Cemetery.

Doris was born December 24, 1928, in Runnells, Iowa, to Glen and Georgia (Wilson) McClaflin. First and foremost in her life was family. She was the beloved matriarch of not only her children, but her younger siblings as well. At age 17, she began working for Northwestern Bell and continued her career with them until her retirement as an executive secretary in 1984 at age 55. She was last employed as a secretary for the State of Iowa Legislature.

Doris enjoyed traveling with her husband, Thomas, and tending her rose gardens. She devoted years to her passion of genealogy research, tracing her family tree back to the 1600s. She will be remembered for her love of family and as an excellent cook.

Doris is survived by her children, Elaine Maynard, Thomas W. Burford (Trudy), and Lori Fousek (Bryan); siblings, Dean McClaflin, Romona Porter, Frances King, James McClaflin, Paul McClaflin and Rex McClaflin; numerous nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Michael Maynard, Thomas Ryan Burford, Anna Burford, Evan Fousek and Breanna Fousek; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Richard Burford, and her brothers, John McClaflin and William McClaflin.

Memorials may be directed to the family for a future designation.
