Gordon Kusel, 63, of Bondurant went to be with his loved ones on February 19, 2021. He was welcomed with open arms.

Gordon was born October 27, 1956 to Ellen (Herker) Kusel and Garland Kusel. Gordon graduated from SE Polk High School in 1976. Gordon worked many years at Aunt Vi’s Noodles in Altoona before going and working at Dee Zee before retiring in 2014. Gordon met the love of his life, Dianna Shissler, while in high school. They were united in marriage on December 10, 1976.

Gordon was an avid farmer and lived on a farm in Maxwell for 29 years before selling the farm and moving to Bondurant. Gordon loved his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. He loved being around people and being able to serve others. He enjoyed being grandpa to the many children at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and bringing them cookies every Sunday.

Gordon is survived by his wife of over 44 years, Dianna, his four children, Carrissa (Tim) Godwin, of Prairie City, IA, Shawna (Dan) Monaghan, of Mitchellville, IA, Trisha (John) Hedges, of Bondurant, IA, Jeremiah Kusel of Slater, IA, siblings Rebecca (Carl) Tiffany, of Colfax, IA, John Kusel, Madrid, IA, Kevin (Candy) Kusel, of Whiting, NJ, and Pennie (Nick) Warneke, of Altoona, IA. He is also survived by 20 grandkids and 4 great grandkids and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Garland and Ellen (Herker) Kusel, his in-laws, Carroll and Donna (Blood) Shissler, his sister-in-law, Kellie Kusel, and his daughter-in-law, Melissa Sears.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW. A private family service will be held on Thursday, February 25, 2021, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 721 E. 1st Street, in Ankeny, with live streaming to begin at 11:00 a.m. He will be laid to rest at Mitchellville Cemetery following the service.
