Angela Watson passed away in her home on February 17 after her fight with cancer came to an end. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Elaine and Clyde, as well as her brothers Martin and Bill.

Although her prognosis was grim from the beginning, Angela spent her final years undaunted and surrounded by those she loved most. Never once did she despair over the burden of her illness and she left this world with a full heart, a wide smile and her quirky sense of humor fully intact. Angela spent her last few years proudly playing the role of doting grandmother. She refused to let something as trivial as lung cancer and a worldwide pandemic come between her and her grandson, Henry. It was a common sight to see Henry on grandma’s lap while the two of them solved puzzles on the iPad.

Anyone that knew Angela was more than aware of her affinity for animals. In her most recent vacation, she travelled to the island of Aruba. Not for the white sand beaches but to visit the Donkey Sanctuary of Aruba. She couldn’t bear to see an animal go hungry and fed any cat, dog, squirrel, possum or raccoon that walked by her house. After her friends and family, no one will miss Angela more than the vagrant animals of Des Moines’ South Side.

Angela is survived by her husband, Roger; children, Alec (Grace), Alaina (Sam) and Heather (Brian); grandchildren, Christopher, Deven, Elizabeth, Henry and Tripp; siblings, Alan (Shirlee), Susie and Ron; as well as her many nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved friends. Angela would also want it noted that she leaves behind her dog Winston as well as her cats Wally and Sugar.

As per Angela’s wishes, there will be no service or viewing held. Her ashes are to be scattered at her parents’ final resting site at a future date. We ask that you spare a moment of your time and leave a favorite memory or final farewell for Angela in the guestbook. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the AHeinz57 Pet Rescue (//www.aheinz57.com/donations/donate/) or to any animal in need.
