Richard Duane Smithhart

Richard Duane Smithhart of the 3200 block of E University passed away January 19th, 2021 after a long, courageous battle with Lung Cancer, at home surrounded by his family. Services will be held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, January 24th at 1 pm. Richard was born October 4, 1960, the son of Milas And Violet Smithhart in Des Moines, Iowa. Richard spent his childhood in Des Moines, Iowa and Casa Grande, Arizona. From the very start he was determined, strong and loved by all. Richard married Julie (Jeffries) on May 7, 1981.

Richard will be greatly missed by wife, Julie Smithhart (Des Moines), his four daughters, Amanda (Jim) Wiles of Des Moines, Lisa (Bob) Munger of Urbandale, Jessica James of Des Moines, Racheal (Manny) Guadron of Des Moines, and only son, Richard Smithhart Jr. of Des Moines, and Eight grandchildren, Lily, Riley, Richard lll, Marlee, Addison, Isabelle, Delilah, Shelby, and one on the way. Sister, Linda (Fred) Knapp of Des Moines, Brother, Milas Jr Smithhart of Des Moines.

Richard enjoyed spending time with his family and playing with his grandchildren. He was a gifted handy man that could fix anything that was brought to him.

Richard will be remembered for his unconditional love for his family, infectious laugh, smile and sense of humor that was always welcomed. His laugh will be missed immensely.

Richard is proceeded in death by his Father and Mother Milas and Violet Smithhart, Grandma Bernice Comstock, Brothers Cleo Smithhart, Harley Wilson, Bill Ramer, Eddie Olsen, Dale Smithhart and Sister Margaret Smithhart.

He was a loving Son, Brother, Husband, Father, Uncle, and Papa.
