The heavenly angels were rejoicing January 9th, when they lovingly welcomed Betty Sonner Kooker 78, of Altoona. Betty passed away due to complications of Covid-19. Visitation will be Friday, January 22nd from 5pm to 7pm at Hamilton’s Funeral Home at 605 Lyon St. Des Moines. Funeral services will be held Saturday January 23 at 11:00am at Sunshine Open Bible, 2130 Easton Blvd. Des Moines, IA. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery. Services will be streamed live. Betty was born November 23, 1942 in Des Moines, Iowa to James and Christabell Walker. She dedicated most of her working life helping people at Iowa Lutheran/Iowa Methodist where she retired from. Betty didn’t know a stranger and was always so eager to help where she could. She was a devoted wife, and dearly loved her children and grandchildren. Betty took pride in leading others to the Lord. She spent many years volunteering with prison ministries, teaching bible studies, and valued her friendships and church community at Sunshine Open Bible. She enjoyed spending her winters in South Padre with Doyle, and the many friends that would return each year, as well. Her wittiness, smile, and heart of gold will forever be missed.

Surviving Betty is her husband of nearly 45 years Doyle, her daughters Lora Hall(Ernie), Betty Jo Husted(Kevin), her sons Doyle Kooker(Crissy), Derrick Kooker(Kathy); her grandchildren Russ Hall(Nicole), Lacy Dean(Terron), Michael Caskey(Alexis), Nathan Caskey(Ashley), Clint Kooker, Natalee Kooker-Armstrong(Dustin), Tarra Kooker, Chloee Kooker, and Hannah Kooker.
