Linda Mae Vander Hart
December 17, 2020
Linda Mae Vander Hart, 71, passed away on December 17, 2020 due to injuries sustained in a car accident in Des Moines, Iowa. Linda was born on May 3, 1949 to Cecil and Lamoille Kinney in Marshalltown, Iowa. Linda attended Owasa School for elementary school and Eldora Jr. High and High School, graduating in 1967. She married her husband Daniel in 1971 and they were blessed with three children - twin sons, Scott and Shane, and daughter, Stephanie. Dan and Linda celebrated 49 years of marriage in August.
While her children were young, Linda was a full-time homemaker, occasionally working for short periods of time outside the home. When her children were grown, she worked in accounting and office management in the nonprofit sector for over 30 years starting at the Des Moines Jewish Federation in 1989 and the Des Moines Area Religious Council (DMARC) in 2013. Linda especially enjoyed serving DMARC’s mission to assist Iowans in overcoming food insecurity.
Linda was an avid reader, consuming both fiction and nonfiction at a rapid pace. She enjoyed watching movies, and was quick to recommend a good one. She loved spending time with her friends and family. She was an artist, having taken up painting while her children were young and later operating an arts and crafts business with her husband Dan called Dutch Crafters. She also was passionate about causes such as helping those with autism, high-risk children and youth, curing and treating childhood cancer, and defeating human trafficking.
Linda would also say her nine grandchildren were her hobby and she was committed to attending their games, activities and events. They kept her very busy. Most importantly, Linda loved and followed Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, attending and volunteering at Valley Church in West Des Moines and later NorthPoint Church in Johnston.
She will always be known for her kind heart, passion for helping those in need, a cheerleader of her children’s and grandchildren’s interests, love for her husband, and fierce dedication to her family. Her family and friends will miss her dearly.
Linda was preceded in death by her brother Allan, mother Lamoille, and father Cecil.
She is survived by her husband Daniel; sons, Shane (Cheryl) Vander Hart and Scott (Tami) Vander Hart; daughter, Stephanie Bartels (Jeremy Klisares); and brother Russell (Sonja) Kinney; nine grandchildren, Kelvey, Morgan, Lily, Riley, Rachel, Drew, Jenna, Jesse, and Abby and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 pm on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at NorthPoint Church, 9901 NW 62nd Ave in Johnston. The funeral will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, December 31, 2020 also at NorthPoint Church. Interment will follow at Bondurant Cemetery, 879 Second St. SE, Bondurant. Those attending are welcomed back to NorthPoint Church at 1:30 pm for a coffee and dessert reception.
The family will practice physical distancing and requests that masks be worn. For those unable to attend, the funeral will be livestreamed at the following link:
