Mary Ellen Cashatt, age 95, passed away Sunday, November 29, 2020 of congestive heart failure.

Mary was born January 19, 1925 in Pulaski, Iowa. She loved people and enjoyed socializing and telling stories. Mary was a fighter and battled kidney disease and Covid, surviving both. There was never a dull moment when you were with Mary. She will be lovingly remembered as a sassy old bird and a busy body. She earned the title Gossip Queen. She always had dogs as pets, and most recently loved her dog Sammy. She collected dolls and enjoyed family celebrations, putting together puzzles, and traveling.

She is survived by her children, Curdonna Bjork, Eugene (Jane) Cashatt, Dennis (Ellie Wolfson) Cashatt, Gary (Linda) Cashatt, Randy (Sandy) Cashatt, Sandy (John) Wenck, and Cherrie (Tom) Thompson; grandchildren, Cara (Aaron) Bucklin, Kevin Chenoweth, Deanna Thompson, Tommy (Sommer) Thompson, Kyle Thompson, Robert (Stacy) Bjork, Shawna (Pat) Astor, Hannah Cashatt, Kristina (Chris) Vorse, Michael Van Oort, Kary (Andrew) Howie, Karen (Vince) King, Megan Law, Julie Cashatt, and Caitlynn Cashatt; many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Eugene Cashatt, Sr.; grandchildren, Nicole Thompson and Marty Cashatt; great-grandchildren, Aaron Bjork and Abigail Thompson; parents, Emil Smallwood and Mamie Smallwood Clayton; two sisters and three brothers.

There will be a graveside service at Glendale Cemetery on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League in loving memory of Mary.
