Hazel May (Riddle) Seiberling passed away on November 27, 2020 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 89.

Hazel was born in Des Moines on May 26, 1931, to Charles and Jennie (Cogley) Riddle. She was the 8th of 13 children. On July 4, 1948, she met the love of her life, Carl Seiberling, and they were married June 12, 1949. They were blessed with five children: Carlene (Tom) Chebuhar, Donna, Texas; Evelyn (Randy) Worth, Pleasant Hill, Iowa; Steven Seiberling Windsor Heights, Iowa; Dianna (Mike) Leete, Ashford, Alabama; and James (Linda) Seiberling, Mingo, Iowa. They have eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Hazel and Carl were married for 71 years. Hazel loved singing and Carl loved hearing her sing. Hazel was very active in her church. With five children to raise, she was mostly a stay-at-home mom, but after the children were all in school, worked part-time. After retirement, Hazel and Carl wintered in Alamo, Texas, for several years.

Hazel is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Harold (Ethel) Riddle, Foley, Alabama; two sisters: Gloria Storey, Woodward, Iowa, and Gladys Luker, Wilmer, Alabama; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, her parents, three brothers, John, Charles Jr., Joseph, and six sisters, Caroline, Mary, Katheryn,Geraldine,Janet and Evelyn.

Services will be held at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home on Friday, December 4, 2020 at 2:00 p.m., with visitation prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens cemetery following the service.

The family welcomes donations to Special Olympics Iowa as an expression of sympathy in lieu of flowers.
