Xia Vang

Xia Vang was born October 10th, 1929, in Xieng Khouang, Laos to Mr. and Mrs. Wa Leng Vang. She was the eldest of three brothers and one sister. She came to the US in October of 1987 and lived with her children.

Xia enjoyed making Hmong clothes and had a creative eye for sewing. She liked to shop at thrift stores and enjoyed watching the show “Walker, Texas Ranger.” She loved to chat on the phone and liked to tell stories of her childhood. Though she didn’t have much, she always thought of those less fortunate and helped her family members who lived in Laos.

Xia is survived by her 4 children, Nhia Toua Vang (son), Mai Vang (son), Ka Vang (daughter currently residing in Laos), Vaneng Her (son) and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will remain in our hearts forever as we remember her white, wavy hair and her contagious, hearty laughter.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Sunday, December 6, 2020 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. There will be a time of fellowship after the service from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Xia will be laid to rest at Rising Sun Cemetery on Monday, December 7, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.
