Service Details

Marty Shawn Garcia, 43, passed away on September 26, 2020. He was born June 2,1977, in Leon, Iowa, to his mother, Angela DeWeese, and father, Pedro Garcia. Marty grew up with his sister, Nikki Garcia, and his brother, Joseph Garcia. He lived many places in the Saydel community through the years, but home for him was people, not a place. Marty loved to make jokes and spend time with his many friends. When he walked into a room, there was always someone he knew. Without fail, he had a car that he thought was the coolest car on the block, and one (or five) that needed work. Marty began his career as a plumber in 1996 and followed that passion through his final days.

Marty took pride in many aspects of his life. One being his children. He loved to tell everyone about his kids, Andre’s success in the plumbing industry, Nico’s beautiful children, and Darian’s accomplishments in school. Being a hard worker was also something he took pride in. Going back to school to receive his General Education Degree was a milestone in his life, in addition to his Master Plumber License. One part of his life he can take with him are his beloved tattoos.

He was preceded in his death by his sister, Nikki Garcia, his father, Pedro Garcia, his uncle, Deon Martinez, his great grandmother, Hazel Graham, and his cousin, Ronnie Reading Garcia.

Marty is survived by his three children, Andre Young (Kennedy), Nico Garcia (Sydney), Darian Garcia (Bryce), his three grandchildren, Hayven Young, Leah Garcia, Ellie Garcia, his mother, Angela DeWeese, his stepfather, James DeWeese, his brothers Joseph Garcia and Johnny Garcia, his sister Mary Garcia Trevino, his step-brothers Jason DeWeese and Heath DeWeese, his grandmother Diana House, his cousin, Natasha Martinez, his lifelong friend, Danielle Garcia, his best man, Jami Klootwyk, and many cousins.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2020, from 1 pm to 3 pm at Capitol City Church (5990 NE 14th St, Des Moines, IA 50313), with a funeral service following the visitation. Memorial contributions may be directed to his children in loving memory of Marty.
