Jesse Allen Patton
August 16, 2020
Jesse Allen Patton, HIA, MHP, FAHM, LUTCF, HIPAAA, EHBA, PHIAS, DBA, 61, passed away August 16, 2020. Services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA with visitation Friday evening, August 21 from 4 to 8 p.m. and the funeral service on Saturday, August 22 at 10:00 a.m.
Jesse was born October 18, 1958 in Newton, IA to Lela (Dickerson) and Robert Patton. He graduated from Newton High School and then attended DMACC to become an EMT- Emergency Medicine Technician.
Jesse has worked in the insurance industry since 1981. He was the youngest member inducted into the Iowa Insurance Hall of Fame and received the Legacy Award from IAHU. He received multiple awards from the insurance industry including State and National Distinguished Service Awards from the IAHU and National Association of Health Underwriters. Jesse had the honor of working alongside President George W. Bush in a press conference regarding affordable health care in Bethesda, MD in 2005. His legacy lives on in the business he created as his wife, and two sons all continue to work at the health insurance agency.
Jesse had a kidney transplant 24 years ago which taught him to enjoy life. He had a great sense of humor and could be quite the prankster. He enjoyed being a father watching his sons grow up and to become responsible husbands and fathers themselves. His joy came from his four granddaughters whom he enjoyed showering with toys and stuffed animals.
Jesse was a man of many interests. He liked traveling, watching sports especially the Green Bay Packers, playing golf, gardening and cooking his wonderful turkey and dressing at Thanksgiving.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Laura Patton; his sons, Lee (Sara) and Allen (Kori) Patton; granddaughters, Kaylee, Lela, Rollins and Everlee; his brothers, Mike (Sharon) and Bill (Bobbette) Patton; and other loving relatives and many special friends. Jesse was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be directed to the Iowa Donor Network or to Junior Achievement in loving memory of Jesse.

R.I.P. Jesse. It was a great honor and experience knowing you, your family and staff. You were very helpful and knowledgeable guiding me to the right insurance plan as I transitioned from my company insurance plan to my retirement.

To the family, my heart and prayers go out to everyone of you.
Although I only knew Jesse through NAHU, he was one of those people that I looked forward to seeing at either Convention or Capitol Conference. It will not be the same with Jesse not there.
Jesse was one of the few people who sincerely acknowledged and took the time to give me a genuine hello. I'll truly miss him.

I was a friend of Jesse's through NAIFA. He was an incredible man--so knowledgeable, so giving of himself. He shared his knowledge with so many by giving lectures and putting on CE classes, from which we all benefited. Through his knowledge and dedication to our industry, his influence spread not only throughout NAIFA, but throughout the state, expanding to the federal level. He was so very highly respected. His passing will leave a terrible void--but his legacy will remain. We all gained so much from him. He will be missed.

I put this on Facebook about an hour ago: "I probably met Jess, sometimes called him Jesse myself, maybe about 20 years ago. I remember working on the IAHU Healthcare Symposium maybe ten years ago when Newt Gingrich was the keynote speaker. Everyone will say the same thing: probably no one knew more about health care than Jesse. He always took time to talk to me, someone who was hard-headed, as things never sunk in the first time. Sympathy and prayers of comfort to his children, including Lee, and his wife Laura and all family including grandchildren."

So very sad to hear about Jesse passing. He made high school alot of fun for me. A friend I knew I could count on. I remember when he would bring home made crock pot meals from home and at lunch we would gather in the trainers room by the gym. Wonderful guy. Wish we would have stayed in touch. Prayers to you Laura and your family

Laura, Lee and Allen I am so sorry for your loss. Jesse believed so strongly and provided so much to this industry and the clients we serve. He was always willing to help Wisconsin AHU be stronger and for that I am thankful. Building a family business in the industry he loved is both remarkable and admirable. My deepest sympathies.

I am so sorry to hear of Jesse's passing. I knew a year ago that he was having a medical issue but not to what extent. He was private in that regard. A true leader and dedicated advocate for our industry. I will miss our conversations at our many IAHU get-togethers.
