John E. Gillson

John Earl Gillson, age 64, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2020 at the VA Hospital in Des Moines.

John was born February 12, 1956 in Des Moines, Iowa to John Earl and Elizabeth Gillson. He proudly served in the U. S. Navy. He loved fishing, taking walks, and being outdoors.

He is survived by his daughters, Heather Johnson, Nikki Gillson, and Ladonna Woods; grandchildren, Jamaal, Shandra, Chanel, Shaunice, Donisha, Cierra, and Shaelynne; great-grandchildren, Giovanna, Dominic, and Jaliyah; sisters, Mildred Gillson and Raylene Bundy; nieces, Jessica Gillson and Veronica Moeltering; great-nephew, Jacob (Hennasie); great-nieces, JiTerrica and Jaleesa; great-great-niece, Harmonie; great-great-nephew, Jacob Jr.; and many loving friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth Gillson.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., Thursday, August 6, 2020 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of John.

Well Brother John, I was sitting in my car listening to Bob Seger and my mind naturally turned to thoughts of you and wondering how you were doing, so I go to your fb page and find you are already gone. I had planned to come see you my friend, I'm glad we got to at least talk on messenger. Fly high my friend, until we meet again, I love ya John.
