Scott Allen Smith

July 28, 1964 – June 26, 2020

Scott was born in Des Moines, Iowa on July 28, 1964, the eldest child of Ronda Marie Fiser (Dean Franklin Fiser) and Marvin Albert Smith (Doris Bolz Smith).

As a child, Scott loved the outdoors, especially fishing. A big family trip to Canada started his love of fishing and few favorite years were spent traveling to Minnesota to camp. He loved to eat the fried fish his grandpa Shipley and Dean would make. Through his childhood years, Scott had a slightly ornery side. He loved to hide at the end of the hallway and jump out and scare his mom. He was so proud of himself and laughed so hard. He never grew out of that.

In 1984, Scott met the mother of his children, Pam, the woman who would give him his proudest accomplishment; three beautiful daughters. Everyone could see that he loved his girls with his whole heart. He met the love of his life, Amy, the summer of 2004. With each of them having 3 kids of their own, two families quickly became one. With many personalities under one roof, life was filled with many ups and downs throughout the years, but Scott always maintained the calm in our chaos.

Scott and Amy married in 2012 and moved to Clive 6 years ago. They’ve enjoyed the life they’ve built and the many blessings they shared. Scott was a creature of habit and found comfort in routine. You would find their house filled with grandkids most weekends and movie nights with his girls every Wednesday. And during football season, Sunday’s were spent cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, win or lose. It was the simple things in life that mattered the most to Scott.

Scott had a genius mind when it came to technology. He obtained an Associate of business degree in computer programming and accounting major in 1986. He’s worked for the judicial branch since 2002, serving in several roles, from the Help Desk to the Application Support Team as Resolution Administrator. He was a “go to” guy for all things IT because of his dedication to resolve problems and follow up with answers. His co-workers will remember him for his big heart and the many conversations that were shared about family and football. Words from a friend, “You would be hard pressed to meet someone with as big a heart as Scott and that showed through in his daily work and interactions. Oh and that wonderful laugh of his. That was a warm sound echoing off of our walls that will forever be loved and missed.”

On June 26th, 2020, Scott passed away peacefully with his wife by his side after a short but tough battle with malignant metastatic melanoma.

He is survived by his parents Ronda Marie Fiser (Dean Franklin Fiser) and Marvin Albert Smith (Doris Bolz Smith). He leaves behind his beloved wife of 16 years together, Amy Lynn Rowe, children Ashley Seidl (Cory Seidl), Cassie Smith, and Megan Smith, Morgan Garrett (Cylind Garrett), Megan Anderson, Matthew Anderson (Calista Anderson), and sisters Shelley Beener (Jeff Beener) and Deana Fiser. He also leaves behind grandchildren, nephews, and a wealth of friends.

Scott was preceded in death by his grandparents.
