Service Details

After a 16 year battle, Janet Gayle (Hautaoja) Mayberry succumbed to Parkinson’s Disease. A memorial service will take place July 20, 2020 at 12 noon at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines.

Janet was born on April 12, 1940 to Walter and Edith Hautaoja of Virginia, Minnesota. She attended high school in Duluth, Minnesota. After high school she was employed by Univac Corporation in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Later, she was employed by Magnavox Corporation in Urbana, Illinois where she met and married Terry Mayberry. Because of her husband’s Air Force career they lived in various locations around the nation, including 13 years in Tallahassee, Florida. They later made West Des Moines, Iowa their permanent home where Janet worked in Wells Fargo card services for 20 years.

Janet was known for her quiet, gentle manner, and acquired many lifelong friends. She was an accomplished seamstress and cook, enjoyed crafts, bible study, yoga, and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Terry Mayberry of West Des Moines, Iowa; sister, Sharon Kadrlik (Tony) of Delano, Minnesota; brother, Gordon Hautaoja of Duluth, Minnesota; daughters, Nancy Brecht (Joe) of Des Moines, Iowa, and Lisa Kuehl (Bryan) of Poulsbo, Washington; grandchildren, Amanda Boers (Brandon), Christine Watson, Joseph Brecht (Samantha), Kristen Brecht; and great-grandchildren Harper Boers, Arie Boers, Harley Brecht and Joey Brecht. She is preceded in death by her parents.
