Bruce W. Meyer

Bruce W. Meyer, 73, passed away on May 13, 2020. He was born June 13, 1946 in Decorah, Iowa to Willard and Florence (Schroeder) Meyer. Bruce married Donna Sterler on April 20, 1974 in Sheldon, Iowa.

Bruce served his country proudly in the Army in Vietnam earning a Bronze Star. He went on to work as a power lineman and eventually ended his career as a construction specialist. After work, Bruce would go to school and eventually finished his Bachelor’s Degree from Upper Iowa University. In retirement, he worked in security. Bruce was a true outdoorsman spending as much time as he possibly could fishing and boating with his family. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Donna; daughters, Tricia (Mathew) Janes and Melissa (Andrew) Neuendorf; grandchildren, Abigail and Trevor Janes and Claire and Mannix Neuendorf; siblings, Donna (Albert) Ashbacher, Byron (Eileen) Meyer and Michelle (Matt) Hurlbut; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Roger Meyer.

A private family service will be held at Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines. Bruce will be laid to rest at Iowa Veterans Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for a cause close to Bruce’s heart.
