Kathlyn Ann “Kathy” Janson Rider, 90, passed away on March 23, 2020. She was born on October 19, 1929 in Hampton, Iowa to Ed and Bertilda Janson. She grew up in Webster City, Iowa and graduated from Lincoln High School in Webster City in 1947. Kathlyn attended Drake University where she was a member of Delta Gamma social sorority. She graduated from Iowa Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in 1951. On August 5, 1951 she was united in marriage to John F. “Jack” Rider. They had 2 children, Susan Elizabeth and John David.

The couple lived in several Iowa towns, Spencer, Ottumwa, Davenport and West Des Moines. Kathlyn was a member of several PEO Chapters in Iowa and Arizona. She was active in her church and also enjoyed reading, bridge and cross word puzzles. She felt fortunate to have been able to be a stay at home mother.

After retirement, she and her husband spent winters in Green Valley, Arizona and moved there full-time in 1999. There they enjoyed golf and hiking and accrued over 1,000 miles with the hiking club. They also enjoyed traveling, taking many cruises and land tours. In 2014, they moved to a retirement community in Clive, Iowa to be nearer to their family.

Kathlyn is survived by her husband of 68 years, Jack; daughter, Susan (Tom) Heck of Lenexa, Kansas; son, John (Terri Felton) Rider of Madison, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Julia (Spencer) Hilt and Eleanor Rider; step-grandchildren, Heather Heck Hull, Tom Heck III, Katie Cutchall; great-grandson, Jack; step-great-grandchildren, Alex, Ariel, Rayne, Ruby and Grayson; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Irene Braden and Geneice Neilsen; brother, Richard Janson; and step-granddaughter, Katie Cutchall.

A private committal service for both Jack and Kathy will be held at St. Timothy Episcopal Church Columbarium.
