Julia M. Ray

Julia M. Ray, 74, passed away February 23, 2020 at Regency Care Center in Norwalk.

Julia was born July 19, 1945. She was a lifelong Des Moines resident. On July 19, 1976, she married Donald Ray, Sr. During her working years Julia was a tax preparer. After having Lisa Marie, she stayed at home to run her household. Julia loved gardening, cross-stitching and crafting. Genealogy was very important to her. Julia’s family was her first love, she enjoyed cooking and feeding her family. She also loved music and dancing.

Julia was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Cleta McKeehan; sisters, Janet Faye (John) Taylor and Joanne Gay Webb; and her brother, Robert Lee McKeehan, Jr.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Don Ray, Sr.; siblings, Linda Lou Taylor, Carol Ann (Mike) Walls and William Spencer (Elizabeth) McKeehan; daughter, Lisa Marie (Danny) Brown; 19 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and multiple nieces and nephews.

Julia and Don’s house was a home for every person who walked in, especially if you had no family at all.

A celebration of Julia's life will be held at Faith Independent Assembly of God, 6001 SW 14th Street, Des Moines on Saturday, July 18, 2020 beginning at 11:00 a.m. There will be a reception directly after the service.
