Michael David Leach, 56, passed away February 18, 2020 at Great River Medical Center in Burlington, Iowa.
Michael was born October 28, 1963 in Sioux City, Iowa to Richard and Lois Leach. He retired in 2004 from the United States Army after serving 22 years of active duty. Michael continued his career at the Army Ammunition Plant and was recently recognized for 35 years of active and civilian service. He enjoyed fishing, gambling and playing the guitar.
Michael is survived by his wife, Laurie Leach; children, Christina Leach, Katie Turk, Tasha (Rob Jenkins) Leach and Hunter Leach; nine grandchildren; siblings, Bill Leach, Dan Leach, Bob Leach, Lois Kress, Carol Rankin, Tim Leach and Joanne Boylan; and a host of extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Susan Myatt.
The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, February 24, 2020 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 25th at the funeral home. Michael will be laid to rest with military honors at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter.

Just came across the beautiful memorial video of Mike Leach. (I am an ALHS graduate 1974, and one of my friends and classmates was Tim Leach, brother of Mike?) Regardless, beautiful, all the scenes of Mike. Sis en lumen Christo. God bless.

Mike was a coworker and good friend of mine for about 12 years. For most of that time we backed each other up in the performance of our daily QA duties. He was always great to work with. Mike loved his country, and spent most of his life serving it. I always admired Mikes desire to get his Bachelors degree at mid-life. After many years of studying nights and weekends, Mike finally received his degree. He was so proud. RIP, Mike. Ill miss you.

Mike was honestly the best QA rep that I ever worked with. He truly cared about what he did and always had the best interest of the warfighter in mind. To say he will be missed is a huge understatement. RIP Mike

Mike was a gentleman, great guy that cared greatly for his family, country and those like him who served in the military. He was highly respected by those of us who had the privilege to know him as a friend and work with him. Our condolences to his family - he will be missed.

Mike took me on my first visit to the IAAAP before heading to Texas for the same intern program he'd finished 2 yrs prior, We talked about HS hoops as I'm originally from Pella and Mike attended DM Lincoln. He was a big fan of Rush & Rush...the band & the big radio voice. Enjoyed his stories that ended up with more of something than a circus dog would be able to jump over. Mike was good at his job, had a lot of interests & knowledge outside of work and would share those when he wanted to. He'll be much missed.

My deepest sympathy to Mike's family, friends & co-workers. They say that after one leaves this earth, their name shall always remain so therefore, we should make good of our name while upon this mighty earth. Well, Michael Leach will be remembered for always rising to the call, for not only his country and it's people during his active duty military service, but also for his dedication to his quality of work achievement, during his years of employment at The Army Ammunition Plant. He achieved much respect from not only myself, and his co-workers in Government, but from many of our production operators at The Iowa Army Ammunition Plant.
You will be greatly missed, but your name will always be remembered as being 'top notched,' as you were always achieving success for the soldiers & for "Us." We will continue to remain prideful in the work that we do, because of people like you.....Michael Leach.....Until We Meet Again.

For the short time I worked with Mike, I will never forget the time he was driving from the IAAAP plant to drop me off at the building I work in. He was so used to honking at stop signs on the plant that he did it all through town. When I slowly looked at him and said why are you honking? he said, don't tell anyone! We couldn't stop laughing! Loved his Personality and big ol truck! You will be missed!

Mike was an awesome friend and coworker at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. He was very dedicated to his responsibilities at the IAAAP and always available go the extra mile. He will be greatly missed. I always enjoyed our discussions on Civil War battle sites and sharing our civil war books. Also our guitar playing discussions. I'm sure there will be a library and music room in Heaven for you to enjoy!
