Catherine B. Harris

Catherine Belle (Vanhook) Harris was born January 8, 1921 in Millerton, Iowa to John William and Bessie Pearl (Cramer) Vanhook. She married William Harris in 1946 and together they had two children, Stephen and Leah. Catherine earned her CNA Certificate and worked as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant for over 30 years before her retirement.

She passed away peacefully Monday, February 17, 2020 at Norwalk Nursing and Rehab at the age of 99.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Leah Cummings, granddaughter Sarah Cummings, and her great-grandchildren Donovan and Jordan Cummings.

Catherine was preceded in death by her husband William Harris and her son Stephen Harris.

Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m., followed by funeral service at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Private burial will be at Chariton Cemetery in Chariton, Iowa.
