Angelina Catherine Righi Gibbons passed from this life on Saturday, February 15, 2020 surrounded by her children at Taylor Hospice House.

Angie was born on October 14, 1930 in the coal mining camp of Zook Spur, Iowa to Italian immigrants, Carolina and Gioacchino Righi. She spent her early years in Zook Spur and then Pian Di Venano, Italy, before returning to the United States and settling in Madrid, Iowa. She was a 1949 graduate of Madrid High School. Angie married Tom Gibbons, and they raised their four children in Madrid. Angie and Tom retired to Heber Springs, Arkansas in 1992 where they spent many happy years dancing and fishing. They returned to Iowa in 2013 and lived in Altoona.

She was a member of Saints John and Paul Catholic Church in Altoona, Iowa. Angie was a fabulous cook, dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. Her strength and perseverance were an inspiration to many, and she will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Thomas Gibbons; her children, Lezlie (Daniel) Lundy of Zearing, Suzanne (Charles) Nestrud of Little Rock, Arkansas, Mark (Julie) Gibbons of Johnston, and Peggy (Dennis) Sweeney of Altoona; grandchildren, Cortney (Patrick) White, Nicolas Vest, Jennifer (Chris) Aguerre, April (Jason) Oliver, Christopher (Karen Jones) Nestrud, Lauren (Suvir) Garkel, Anna Sweeney, Kieran Sweeney, Matthew Gibbons, and Megan Gibbons; and great grandchildren, Bella White, Zoey White, Ruby Aguerre, Coral Aguerre, Claire Oliver, Carson Oliver, and Riya Garkel.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Vera Grief.

Visitation will be Friday, February, 21 from 9:30 to 10:30 am at Saints John and Paul Catholic Church, Altoona, Iowa followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Saints John and Paul Family Promise fund for the homeless, 1401 1st Avenue S., Altoona, IA 50009.
