Ronald Dean Smith

Ronald Dean Smith, 79, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2020.

Ronald was born August 26, 1940 in Des Moines, Iowa to Willie and Velda (Wease) Smith. He graduated from North High School. Shortly after graduation, Ronald enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served for 10 years. After his honorable discharge, he worked in the concrete industry for approximately 15 years. During that time, he devoted time to the Air National Guard, which eventually led him to reenlist in the United States Air Force, from which he retired. During his time in the Air Force, he worked as a metrologist calibrating airplane engines critical to their design. His interests included trains and eagle watching.

He is survived by his son, Ronald (Cathi) Smith II; step-son, Dan Camarillo; granddaughters, Mercedes Reynolds, Ashley Smith, Felicia Smith, Paige Polke, and Brittany Gookin; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Rose, Mary, Barbara, and Violet; and a host of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Lydia, sister Frances, twin brother Robert, and brothers, Jack and Donald.

According to Ronald’s wishes, there will be no services held at this time.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Second Chance Dog Rescue, 4803 Lisbon St, Prole, Iowa 50229 in loving memory of Ronald.
