Mae Thou Fong Sinnorai

Mae Thou Fong Sinnorai, age 100, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family on Thursday, January 16, 2020.

Mae Thou Fong was born January 1, 1920 to Chanthao and Kenekham Sananikone in Vientiane, Laos. She married Phoumy Sinnorai and had ten beautiful children. In 1988 she moved to the United States, shortly after her husband Phoumy passed away. While in the United States, Mae Thou Fong was the primary care provider for her children, and instilled upon them the importance of education and the value of hard work and humility. In her free time, she was active in the Buddhist community, spending time at the temple with her friends and family. She enjoyed crafting, cooking and gardening, but most importantly she enjoyed staying connected with her family. Whether near or far, Mae Thou Fong loved conversing with her loved ones.

During her lifetime, Mae Thou Fong was the matriarch of the family, providing a guiding light of respect, unconditional love, and laughter for her family. She was well known for her sense of humor and confident retorts, a trait she instilled especially upon her great grandchildren. Mae Thou Fong’s legacy is continued through her surviving children, daughter Viengsy, daughter Viengsouk and husband Phillip, son Viengsavath and wife Manivone, daughter Viengsavanh and husband Vannavong, daughter Viengsavinh and husband Khamsone, daughter Viengkham and husband Khammoune, 27 grandchildren and 52 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Monday, January 20, 2020 and Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines, and will be followed by cremation.
